Summer Chill: Cold Brew Iced Tea
Summer is just around the corner and the weather is starting to heat up! Nothing is more perfect than a nice, cold glass of iced tea on a summer’s day. We know everyone has their preferred method of making iced tea but have you ever tried to cold brew tea? Yes, we said cold brew! Just like coffee you can cold brew tea and it is quickly growing in popularity. Believed to have originated in Japan, this method is known for producing a cup of tea that is smoother in taste, with less tannins and caffeine. Below you can find the process of cold brew that is as simple as 1, 2, 3!
A pitcher or mug, either will work
Any type of loose leaf tea. This recommended because
it will emit more of the natural aroma and oils from the
tea when brewing, making for a tastier tea.
Tea filter/infuser or a strainer
For every 1 tablespoon of tea you use one cup of water. For this recipe we are using 5 tablespoons of your tea of choice and 5 cups of cold water.
Once combined, cover the tea and place in the fridge. When using a white, green or herbal tea, steep for 6 to 8 hours, and when using a black or oolong tea steep for 8 to 12 hours.
Strain the tea or remove the filter/infuser from the tea.
This produces a stronger tea concentrate, if you wish to dilute the tea you can add an additional 1 - 4 cups of cold water based on taste preference.
Serve over ice with your choice of sweetener and garnish.
Below you can find some of our favorite teas to enjoy with the cold brew method. Are there any that you would recommend, let us know!
