In the Kitchen with Chado: Summertime Green Tea Salad Dressing

May is here and summer isn’t too far behind! The first thing that comes to mind during the summer season is Iced Tea, but did you know that you can enjoy your favorite green tea in a savory way?  Today we have a quick and easy recipe using green tea, a Summertime Green Tea Salad Dressing!  Bet you never thought about combining tea and salad before?  Let’s jump right into this flavorful summertime recipe!

Summertime Green Tea Salad Dressing

  • 1 teaspoon loose leaf green tea or matcha powder

  • ¼ cup hot water

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 clove garlic, minced (you can always add more, there is no such thing as too much garlic!)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Steep the green tea in the ¼ cup hot water, 5 minutes.  Ideally you need a strong cup of green tea for more flavor.  Once steeped, allow to cool to room temperature.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the green tea, olive oil, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

  3. Taste the dressing and adjust according to taste preference.

  4. Store in an airtight, glass container. The dressing can last up to 1 week in the refrigerator.

  5. Enjoy!
