Coffee Coffee Coffee? No, Tea Tea Tea! What Tea Would Lorelai Gilmore Be?

Two of our favorite TV ladies are named Lorelai—and both happen to be very coffee obsessed. But as a tea company, we’d like to think there’s room in their hearts (and mugs) for a little Chado, too.
If you’re like me, you grew up in the early to mid-2000s watching Gilmore Girls and dreaming of what life might be like in the delightfully quirky town of Stars Hollow. With its witty banter and colorful cast of characters, the show created a world we still love to escape into.
That got me thinking: what if the Gilmore Girls and their friends traded in their coffee cups for teacups? Which blends from the Chado catalog would best suit their unique personalities?
Below, I’ve shared my picks for a few fan-favorite characters. But I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop a comment and let us know which Chado tea you think fits Lorelai, Rory, or anyone else in the Gilmore Girls universe.

Lorelai Gilmore Okay, okay—we know it would take a full-blown apocalypse (or at least a major town disaster, à la Kirk) for Lorelai Gilmore to willingly put down her beloved cup of coffee. This is a woman who treats caffeine like oxygen, who once said, “I need coffee in an IV,” and meant it. Coffee isn’t just her drink of choice—it’s practically a personality trait. But if there were ever a tea that could tempt her over to the leaf side, we’re convinced it would be our Colombian Black Tea Mocca. This bold, energizing blend brings together rich Colombian black tea, real coffee beans, and a hint of chocolate. It’s like a love letter to Lorelai’s coffee obsession—with just enough of a twist to catch her interest. She’d appreciate the double caffeine hit (obviously), but also the decadent touch of sweetness—reminiscent of those rare moments when she’d storm out of Luke’s in a huff and sneak over to Weston’s for a frothy, over-the-top latte. |

Rory Gilmore When I think of Rory, I think of blue. From her Chilton uniform to her Yale days, blue has always followed her—symbolizing both her school spirit and her signature clear-eyed curiosity. Rory is a young woman constantly balancing between two worlds: the refined, structured life her grandparents offer, and the spontaneous, free-spirited world she shares with Lorelai. That’s why our Blue Flower Earl Grey feels like the perfect match. This blend is timeless and classic—something Emily Gilmore would undoubtedly serve in fine china—but the addition of vibrant blue cornflowers brings a playful twist, much like Lorelai’s influence on Rory’s life. And, of course, it’s blue—a color that captures Rory’s essence in more ways than one. |

Emily Gilmore The tried-and-true matriarch of the Gilmore family, Emily Gilmore is a woman of class, taste, and the occasional razor-sharp remark. She’s the epitome of upper-crust sophistication—always impeccably dressed, perfectly poised, and proudly at the center of her social circle as a dedicated Daughter of the American Revolution. With her deep ties to the DAR, this pairing was an easy choice: we’re certain Emily would be absolutely smitten with our Boston Tea Party blend. From the name alone, it’s an instant conversation piece—but it’s the rich, malty black tea that would make it a staple at every one of her meticulously hosted DAR gatherings. Served on fine china, of course, and accompanied by Afternoon Tea on the patio. |

Richard Gilmore Richard Gilmore is a proud man—measured, intellectual, and deeply devoted to the world of books (no wonder Rory takes after him). His literary tastes lean toward the European and Russian classics—Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Dickens—the kinds of stories steeped in depth, tradition, and complexity. That’s why we believe he’d be captivated by our Czar Alexander blend. One sip of this smoky Earl Grey and we imagine Richard would be instantly transported into the pages of his favorite novels. The smokiness echoes the rich aroma of the cigars he once enjoyed, while the classic Earl Grey base nods to his admiration for British refinement. The addition of delicate white tea tips gives this blend a subtle complexity—making it truly one of a kind, much like Richard himself. And let’s not forget the history: legend has it that the Russian Czar introduced this tea to the French in 1814—an origin story we’re sure would fascinate Richard as much as the tea itself. |

I love this blog post! Stars Hollow is a great escape. I think Michel would be Reena’s Chai Spice for his sarcastic nature. I hope that you discuss tea matches for Sookie, Luke, Miss Patty, Babette, Michel and the crooner (with the guitar who pops up every now and then, don’t know his name). I’ll be back for Part 2!
I love this blog post since Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows. You are so right about Stars Hollow being a great escape! I think Michel would be Reena’s Chai Spice for his sarcastic nature. I hope that you match a tea to Sookie, Luke, Miss Patty, Michel, Babette, Kirk and the crooner (the guys who pops up every now and then playing the guitar, don’t know his name). I’ll be back for Part 2!
