Drinks with Chado: Summer Time Iced Tea Cocktails

Drinks with Chado: Summer Time Iced Tea Cocktails

Iced Tea with a splash of your favorite libation, sounds like the perfect combination right?!  In ancient times the Romans and Greeks would pour libations “alcohol” in honor of their gods and goddesses.  In today’s day in age we don’t perform the same rituals as our ancient counterparts, but we haven’t lost the taste for a good drink!  Today we have gathered a few great Iced Tea inspired cocktails perfect for the summer.

Bourbon Sweet Tea Cocktail

This first cocktail may be simple to make but sure packs a punch for those hot summer days!

Servings: 6

  • 7 cups water, divided

  • 6 tablespoons Ginger Peach Black Tea

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 1 inch ginger, peeled

  • ½ cup lemon juice

  • 6 ounces bourbon

  • 12 dashes bitters

  • Lemon slices or peel, garnish

  • Fresh mint, garnish

  1. Bring 6 cups of water to a boil and steep the Ginger Peach Black tea, 3 minutes.

  2. Once steeped, strain out the tea and set aside.

  3. In a small saucepan, combine together 1 cup of water, sugar, ginger, and lemon juice.  Bring to a simmer and allow to simmer just until the sugar is dissolved.  Pour the simple syrup into a fine strainer, this will help to remove any leftover pieces of ginger or lemon residue.

  4. Combine the tea and simple syrup based on your sweetness preference.

  5. Add in the bourbon and bitters, stir to combine.

  6. Refrigerate until ready to serve and garnish with lemon and mint.
